Having signed from Newcastle in the summer of 2016 for a fee in the region of £30m, Moussa Sissoko’s career at Tottenham has been a rather intriguing journey.
The France international struggled initially, completing the full 90 minutes in the Premier League just twice in his debut campaign. Since then however, Sissoko’s influence on the side has grown, and he enjoyed arguably his most impressive season at Spurs last year.
As such, it was no surprise to see the north London side confirm on Friday afternoon that they have handed the midfielder a new long-term deal to keep him at the club.
After hearing the news on Sissoko’s contract, Spurs fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.
But many Lilywhites supporters questioned why the club would be handing a new deal to the 30-year-old, with one fan in particular suggesting it “makes no sense at all”.
Some even revealed their disappointment with the situation, claiming Sissoko simply isn’t good enough and is “not at the required level”.
Check out some of the reaction of Spurs fans below:
Seriously? Who’s next? Lamela? Should be shipping them out, not extending contracts

I almost find this extraordinary length of contract was to spite players like Toby, Jan & Eriksen…This is not just unheard of for spurs to offer an over 30 player 4yrs but also worrying that others who have served the club much more loyally & have more quality, aren’t extended.

he’s already meh and he’s only gonna decline, bad decision from the club

As good as Sissoko’s resurgence was last year, he’s 30 & not at the required level. I think he got the deal so we can sell him. As far as a bench player goes, he’s not that bad. Maybe he’s one of Poch’s guys who’ll die for the cause? Always good to have a few of them around.

Honestly don’t understand why we’ve given Sissoko a 4 year deal. Makes no sense at all
