Tottenham flop set for January exit

Brazilian heavyweights Corinthians are ready to offer Paulinho a route back to his home country after a difficult year at Tottenham, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Selecao star left the Sao Paolo side to join Spurs in a £16m deal last summer with a reputation as one of the very best box-to-box midfielder in South America.

However he has struggled to adapt to Premier League football in what has been a difficult 18 months at White Hart Lane.

Links with the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid surfaced as early as last January, and now it looks as if Paulinho could secure a north London escape route in the New Year.

Corinthians are keen to take the midfielder – who wasn’t in Tottenham’s match day squad for Saturday’s loss at Manchester City – back on loan this winter, and are confident that the Lilywhites will allow the deal to go through.

Few Brazilian clubs can afford to match Spurs’ valuation of Paulinho, however a temporary move may allow him to put his skills in the shop window ahead of a permanent switch next year.
