The 56-year-old has been without a job since he was sacked by Manchester United in December last year, but has been mooted as a potential replacement for Pochettino with Spurs languishing in ninth place.

Mourinho won the Europa League and League Cup with the current Premier League strugglers during his three-year tenure and also claimed achieving 2nd place was one of his finest achievements in management.

Judging by the current state of the club and squad, that doesn’t surprise us at all.

Tottenham have won just one trophy, the League Cup, since the turn of the century. Last season’s Champions League run returned some semblance of joy, but ultimately no reward and their current form suggest it might be another year painfully absent of silverware.
