Tottenham Hotspur fans criticise club for not moving for Barkley

Whenever Ross Barkley’s name was mentioned over the past six months, Tottenham Hotspur were often named in the same breath.

The England international was heavily linked with a move to the North London outfit during the summer transfer window, but a deal never materialised.

It became ever-more likely that Barkley would leave his boyhood club has he opted against signing a new contract a Goodison Park.

The midfielder was due to come to the end of his deal in the summer, which meant that he would have been allowed to leave for nothing.

Instead, Everton struck a deal in the winter window, but it was not Tottenham who scooped the Englishman, it was Chelsea.

According to BBC Sport, the reigning Premier League champions paid just £15m for Barkley, who has not played a single minute of competitive action this season due to a hamstring injury.

The figure in particular has left some Tottenham fans feeling sick to the stomach, while others have questioned the club’s ability to compete at the top level.

Sky Sports reported that Spurs withdrew their interest in Barkley in order to focus on other targets.
