Tottenham Hotspur are on the road to becoming a Premier League heavyweight, but they still have plenty of steps to take.

Having the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen within the team puts them head and shoulders above some of their competitors.

They have always had a handful of standout players, though, particularly prior to Mauricio Pochettino's era when Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were among the first XI.

Both players moved to Real Madrid, with Bale hopping over to Spain in 2013, one year after his teammate.

Bale certainly developed into world-class standard while at Tottenham and went from strength  to strength in his first few seasons at the Bernabeu.

Nowadays, the attacker struggles with injuries, but he can still make an impact on the team, much like Modric.

It is highly unlikely that the pair will return to Tottenham in the near future, but football.london journalist Alasdair Gold posed the question ahead of Madrid's Champions League final on Saturday evening.

Some fans jumped at the idea of welcoming back the duo, while others have firmly moved on.
