Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino suggested last season that Marcus Edwards had a bright future ahead of him.

The Argentine even compared the teenager to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

However, this season, the midfielder has made just one appearance for the senior team - in the Carabao Cup - and Pochettino seems to have changed his tune.

Ahead of Wednesday's Champions League final group game against APOEL at Wembley, the manager confirmed his intention to make changes to the team.

Numerous fringe players are expected to feature, but Edwards has not been called into the fray.

Pochettino told reporters in a pre-match press conference that his comparison between the youngster and Messi last season was wrong.

It appears that Edwards has so far failed to impress the manager this season and will have to wait to get another chance in the senior side.

Many Tottenham fans have been left disappointed by Pochettino's snub.
