Tottenham Hotspur have suffered defeat to Liverpool in the final of the UEFA Champions League after a gruelling match in Madrid on Saturday night.

It was a 90 minutes defined by tension and fatigue, with the only real moment of quality coming in the second half when Divock Origi scored a fine goal to secure a 2-0 victory for the Reds.

Spurs looked well below their their best and couldn't reach the thrilling highs of their best performances over the 2018/19 season.

The big players that have driven much of their progress over the last few years - Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli - just couldn't find the right combination in the final third to punish Jurgen Klopp's side.

Alli was particularly criticised by supporters, failing to test Alisson in the Liverpool goal despite having sight of goal on a few occasions.

With a pass success rate of just 78%, the 35-cap England international was wasteful throughout and that lack of passing penetration is something Spurs will come to regret when reflecting on the match given they dominated team possession overall.
