Tottenham Hotspur fans question pursuit of AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini

A selection of Tottenham Hotspur fans have been questioning reports by CalcioMercato.it, which claim the North London outfit are plotting a January move for AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The midfielder is currently nursing his way back to fitness after sustaining a fractured metatarsal, keeping Pellegrini on the sidelines since beating US Lecce 1-0 in September.

Pellegrini’s outing at the Stadio Via del Mare was his sixth in Serie A this season and seventh across all competitions, having featured from the bench in Roma’s 4-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir FK in the Europa League.

He did not manage to assist any of Roma’s four goals at home to the Super Lig side, but penned three against his former club US Sassuolo and one away to Bologna before his injury.

Tottenham are said to be readying a winter move for the 23-year-old, and could present a bid of around €40-50m (£34.3m-£42.8m) having held a long-standing interest in the 12-cap Italy international.

But Pellegrini’s preference for the time being is to remain at the Stadio Olimpico, where he is under contract until 2022 and discussions are expected over renewing his terms to remove a €30m (£25.7m) release clause that is not active in the January window.

90min have also claimed knowledge of Tottenham’s interest in Pellegrini, but note that the preference in North London would be to sign Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech as the potential replacement for Christian Eriksen.
