It seems that Christian Eriksen's adventure with Tottenham Hotspur is slowly but surely coming to an end.

At least that's the narrative that The Telegraph have recently reported, stating Jose Mourinho is already preparing for life without the great Danish playmaker in his squad with the knowledge that he won't be signing a contract extension.

With the 27-year-old's contract due to expire next summer, Spurs are at risk of losing him for free unless they either manage to convince him to sign an extension or sell him in January on a possible discount to whoever offers to acquire him.

Still, this update has stirred up fans and some were quick to call for Eriksen's head, telling the club to either bin him or freeze him out of the squad entirely.

One fan even suggested the midfielder could go on to become "another Coutinho" at a different club if he truly leaves them now.

But that did seem like a harsh verdict on a player who's given a lot to this badge and was among their top players during Mauricio Pochettino's era at the club.

Not to mention that his contributions were very much felt during the 2018/19's march to the Champions League final when Eriksen scored two goals and netted four assists throughout their European campaign.

He has also managed to tally 68 strikes and 88 assists across 293 games while donning Spurs' kit and defending their colours. For precisely that reason, many of the fans were more forgiving, acknowledging his contribution and calmly accepting that he indeed might be leaving.

Lastly, there were many fans who saw this update on Eriksen as a big chance for one of their players who is still very much in the pipeline. The star in question is Giovani Lo Celso, who has only tallied 252 minutes under his belt in the ongoing campaign but could see his fortunes reversed if and when the Dane leaves the club.

Many are calling for his inclusion in the squad more regularly if Eriksen is to leave in the near future.

And seeing how the 23-year-old has been a great servant to his former club, Real Betis, scoring 16 goals and assisting further six in 45 games, he could be a fine replacement that Mourinho already has in his squad.
