Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a swoop for Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial, but there is yet to be anything concrete from either club.
A recent report in the Daily Mail claimed that Spurs plan to open talks with United officials regarding a deal for the Frenchman, who was sporadically used by Jose Mourinho last season.
The publication states that the Red Devils will look to recoup most of the money that they paid Monaco for Martial in 2015, which was an initial £38m fee, which increased to around £58m with add-ons.
Due to the stubbornness of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in transfer negotiations, it could end up being a drawn-out saga.
Plenty of fans are keen on the idea of Martial being added to the squad, but after watching England play Costa Rica in their final pre-World Cup friendly, some have turned attention to Marcus Rashford.
Martial’s United teammate – valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt – scored a stunning opening goal in the 2-0 victory, and due to his lack of regular game time at Old Trafford, questions have been raised about his future, too.
On Twitter, Spurs fans suggested that the club should swoop for the England international if a deal for Martial becomes impossible.
If Levy could make it possible I would also rather see Rashford instead of Martial, imo he’ll fit better in the squad! #COYS

If they’re not willing to give us Martial in the Alderweireld deal then we should pull out. But if we ask for Rashford then deal back on! #COYS

Rashford at Spurs would be a dream. Him and Kane would be the world’s best forward line in a couple years under Poch
Mourinho will ruin him, even if not to Spurs he needs to move

Rashford & Kane for England excites Hoddle. Let’s get Rashford in at Spurs. That combo would excite me at club level. #ENGCRC
