Tottenham Hotspur should consider making a move for Real Madrid Mateo Kovacic if Mousa Dembele leaves this summer.
Doubts continue to shroud the future of Dembele due to the fact that the midfielder is yet to sign a new contract.
At 30 years of age, the Belgium international does not perhaps warrant a long-term contract, but he was a crucial figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s team last season.
As the days roll on, though, the more likely it is that the midfielder will leave this summer.
If that is the case, Tottenham will need to dip into the market to bring in a sufficient replacement.
Kovacic is certainly worth considering from Tottenham’s point of view as he has the experience and the zest to fit into Pochettino’s team.
The Croatia international, who has earned 40 caps so far in his career, struggled to hold down a regular spot in Zinedine Zidane’s Madrid team last season.
Kovacic possesses speed and strength, and can also switch from an attacking to a defensive mentality, which ticks all the boxes.
The midfielder regularly breaks through defences and has the confidence to perform at the top level.
The only issue that Spurs face is price as Madrid are unlikely to allow Kovacic to leave the Bernabeu on the cheap.
