Tottenham Hotspur turned down a chance to re-sign Luka Modric from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, according to beIN SPORTS broadcast (August 24, 12pm)

What's the word?

The North London outfit came under scrutiny from their fans for failing to sign a single player in the summer transfer window.

All of the club's rivals strengthened, but manager Mauricio Pochettino has had to settle for what they already have.

In fairness to the club, their team did not require much tweaking, but if one of their key players gets injured, then there is a concern that they do not have much strength in depth.

Now, according to a beIN SPORTS broadcast (August 24, 12pm), Spurs turned down an opportunity to sign their former player Modric.

It is believed that the midfielder's camp offered Tottenham the World Cup finalist, who was open to returning to the London outfit, but the invitation was rejected.

What were Spurs thinking?

As mentioned, Tottenham did not need to bring in much new talent as their team was already strong.

However, it seems difficult to comprehend why any club would reject an opportunity to sign a midfielder of Modric's talent.

The 32-year-old - valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt - is reaching the latter stages of his career, but he is still a game-changer and he proved that while on the international stage for Croatia at the World Cup this summer.

The details of Tottenham's snub are unknown, so it could be down to age, wages or something completely different.

Regardless, the arrival of Modric would have certainly boosted Spurs' team even further.
