According to reports in Turkey, Besiktas star Cenk Tosun is in discussions with Tottenham and has representatives meeting with the English club in London this week.
President of Besiktas Fikret Orman has been in London this week, meeting with Tottenham representatives regarding the signing of star striker Cenk Tosun.
The report also confirms that Orman met with representatives from Newcastle, who are also looking to push through a deal for the Turkish international.
Tosun, who is valued at £9.45million by Transfermarkt, has been in sensational form this season. The 26-year-old has cored 10 goals in 15 games for Besiktas season and has been especially impressive in the Champions League, netting four times to help his club to the top of their group.
Crystal Palace almost landed Tosun in the summer but a deadline day deal eventually fell apart. Now, it seems that Tottenham and Newcastle will look to capitalise on Palace’s missed opportunity this January.
Considering the blistering start to the season that Harry Kane has made, it seems unlikely that Cenk Tosun would be a regular fixture in the Spurs team, should he sign for the North London club. With Fernando Llorente also in the Tottenham squad, Tosun would need to impress almost immediately in order to establish himself as a key member of the squad.
However, squad depth is essential, especially when you are battling on many fronts and the way that Spurs are performing this season, deep runs in a number of competitions seems a likely prospect. Therefore, to have a striker like Tosun to call upon from the bench would be a very handy asset.
