Tottenham join battle for out of favour Barcelona ace

Tottenham have joined Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for Barcelona outcast Alex Song, according to reports from Goal.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder looks set to be one of many big name players to leave the Nou Camp this summer, with the La Liga giants ready to axe him after a difficult two seasons.

Since his 2012 move to Barca, Song has struggled for playing time – and has even been shifted in to play at centre-back on occasions – failing to impress in any role.

Liverpool and United were considered to be frontrunners for the £8m-rated ace, yet now it appears that Spurs are also on the scene.

The Londoners are set to push for big deal even though a permanent manager is not in place at White Hart Lane, with chairman Daniel Levy keen to avoid the problems that haunted his side in the transfer window this time last year.

Song featured in 31 of Barca’s 59 games last term, but was by no means a regular and often appeared as a substitute.

The £8m the Catalans are asking for would mark an almost 50% hit on the £15m paid to lure him to Spain from Arsenal not long ago.
