The Armenian has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, as well as Borussia Dortmund.
But now Spurs are interested in hijacking the deal, and want to bring the 24-year-old to White Hart Lane. The North London side look ready to match Shakhtar’s £25million asking price.
Tottenham are currently finalising a deal for Brazilian star Paulinho, as Andre Villas-Boas looks to build a side strong enough to get into the Champions League. Spurs finished 5th in the Premier League last season, just one point adrift of fourth placed Arsenal.
And the Portuguese manager believes that Mkhitaryan could help his pursuit of elite European football, with Mkhitaryan’s advisors holding initial talks with Tottenham chiefs regarding a possible move to the club this summer.
The news will cause concern for Liverpool fans, who have been waiting for their club to sign the Armenian all summer, yet a deal has yet to be completed. Kopites will also be worried that Spurs are interested in the 24-year-old, after the club’s transfer targets last summer, Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson, joined the London side instead of moving to Anfield.
Mkhitaryan failed to turn up for pre-season training earlier this week.
Who should Mkhitaryan join: Liverpool, Tottenham or Borussia Dortmund?
