Tottenham are keen on signing Malcom from Barcelona in January just months after his move to Catalonia, Sport reports.

What's the word?

Mauricio Pochettino elected not to sign a single player during the summer transfer window but his stance has changed ahead of the January window, as he seeks recruits to bolster his Tottenham squad ahead of the fight for a top-four finish.

Further depth is required in the final third and Spanish outlet Sport states Spurs are keen on snatching Malcom from Barcelona just months after he sealed a lucrative switch to the La Liga champions from Ligue 1 side Lille.

The 21-year-old, who the north London outfit reportedly tried to sign in January of this year, has earned just 25 minutes of playing time since his transfer in the summer and Ernesto Valverde could cash-in if an acceptable offer is lodged for the services of the Brazilian talent.

A good signing?

The possibility of Malcom leaving Barcelona in January is pushed by his lack of playing opportunities as he has to fight with the likes of Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho and Munir for first-team opportunities.

If he was to leave the Camp Nou, Malcom would surely push for first-team assurances and Tottenham cannot necessarily offer that as he joins a squad that already boasts Son-Heung Min, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela - all of whom have proved their worth this season.

The report adds Malcom will cost at least £44m, which would be a club-record fee for Tottenham, and splashing that much on a player who would not necessarily immediate improve their first-team is a questionable move.
