Tottenham keen on Dutch playmaker

BArcelona midfielder Ibrahim AfellayTottenham are plotting a summer move for out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Dutch playmaker spent last season on loan with Bundesliga giants Schalke, and was relatively impressive for the duration of the deal.

However, he is still believed to be surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, with Brazilian superstar Neymar having already arrived to further improve their talented forward ranks which also include Lionel Messi, Pedro and Alexis Sanchez.

Spurs chief Andre Villas-Boas is keen to add to his attacking options ahead of next season, and sees Afellay as a player who can work well in tandem with Gareth Bale.

The only issue is the 27-year-old’s injury record, which leaves plenty to be desired.

The 44-time Holland international spent the back-end of last campaign on the sidelines, and a period of seven months away from action between 2011 and 2012 with an anterior cruciate ligament problem.

If he can be kept fit however, there’s no doubt that the former PSV Eindhoven man has the ability to be a top performer, which could tempt AVB to press ahead with an £8million move.

Spurs are also keen on Brazilian wonderkid Bernard, who currently plays in his homeland for Atletico Mineiro.

Tottenham fans, could Ibrahim Afellay be worth the risk?
