Tottenham keen to beat Liverpool to Ukrainian ace

Tottenham are ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool in the battle for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, according to reports from The Mirror.

The pacey Ukrainian ace played a major role in Spurs’ Europa League loss to the Eastern European side on Thursday, netting the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

As a result of his showing, the Londoners are now keen to push ahead and beat their domestic rivals to the 24-year-old’s signature.

Liverpool came within a few hours of snapping up Konoplyanka in January, but despite agreeing personal terms, conducting a medical and triggering his release clause, a deal could not be processed in time.

Since then rumours have indicated that the Reds will make a fresh offer in the summer.

With the relationship between the Merseyside outfit and Dnipro having soured as a result of the botched arrangement last month, Spurs are confident that they can swoop in to steal the highly-rated wide-man.

Tottenham are rumoured to have also made a late move for ‘Kono’ during the last window, but they failed to meet his valuation.

The player himself is said to be more open to joining the Anfield side, but much depends on which team snatches the coveted fourth spot and Champions League football.
