According to El Desmarque via Spurs Web, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi in this summer's transfer window.

What's the story?

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new centre-back this summer, with Toby Alderweireld's future at the club far from secure.

Alderweireld has worked his way back into favour under Mauricio Pochettino, but teams will be able to sign the Belgian for £25m this summer.

According to El Desmarque via Spurs Web, Tottenham are interested in signing Mandi, but they will face competition from Arsenal.

Mandi is believed to have a release clause of £26m in his contract, which is a relatively reasonable fee when considering the current market.

The 27-year-old has been in impressive form for Betis this season and it is not a surprise to learn that clubs are interested in making a move.

Should Tottenham move for Mandi?

Mandi has been with Betis since 2016 and has made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish outfit during the 2018-19 campaign.

In all, Mandi is just three appearances short of 100 for Betis, whilst he has European experience having competed in the Europa League this season.

The 42-time Algeria international would class himself as a central defender, but he has previously played both right-back and left-back during his career.

That versatility makes him even more attractive for a Tottenham team who simply must improve their squad at the end of the campaign.

Standing at 6ft and boasting an impressive turn of speed, Mandi has captained Betis this season, showing his leadership skills.

For £26m, Tottenham should certainly be looking to beat Arsenal to the defender's signature in this summer's transfer window.
