Tottenham line up £25m strike star

Tottenham are plotting a January move for £25m-rated Porto striker Jackson Martinez, according to reports from

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is understood to have made a top class centre-forward his major target for the coming transfer window after growing frustrated with his current crop of attackers.

Emmanuel Adebayor has failed to match the highs he reached under Tim Sherwood last term, while Roberto Soldado looks unlilely to have any future at White Hart lane after a barren debut season, leaving the Argentine short of firepower.

Martinez has emerged as the Lilywhites boss’ major target, with talk of an offer in the New Year doing the rounds.

Porto are reluctant to sell their star attacker, but the player himself is rumoured to be ready to leave Portugal in a bid to push his career forward.

Bids of around £25m may prove too tempting to reject at the Stadio do Dragao, and after a relatively quiet summer in the white half of north London Pochettino could have the cash at his disposal.

Martinez netted both goals as Porto beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League earlier this week.
