Tottenham have made a top-class striker their major target for next months, with manager Mauricio Pochettino having turned to youngster Harry Kane after growing frustrated with big money pair Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.
Berahino has impressed the likes of Franco Baldini and Paul Mitchell – the Londoners’ technical director and head of recruitment respectively – so far this season, with his seven-goal haul enough to have convinced them to make a swoop.
The Baggies are far from keen to lose their 21-year-old star, but manager Alan Irvine is believed to be aware that large offers, a figure of £25m has been suggested, will be hard to turn down.
Berahino himself may be open to a big move, with keeping his spot in the senior England side on his personal agenda after his debut under Roy Hodgson a few months ago.
Liverpool are also thought to be keen.
