Tottenham move for midfield ace

Andrea Pirlo (Juventus)Tottenham have offered veteran Juventus midfielder a three-year deal in a bid to beat a number of rivals to his signature, according to the Daily Star.

The World Cup-winning playmaker’s future in Turin is the subject of much doubt, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Despite being one of Juve’s key men in their recent Serie A successes, the club are believed to be considering whether or not it is worth extending the 34-year-old’s stay.

This has alerted a number of clubs – including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United – who are all attracted to Pirlo’s vast experience.

But, Spurs are ready to beat the competition by offering the Italian a lucrative three-year deal to move to White Hart Lane next summer.

Andre Villas-Boas is known to want a deep-lying playmaker, after openly pursuing Joao Moutinho – who now plays for Monaco.

The Portuguese coach sees Pirlo as a good short-term alternative, and somebody who can help with the club’s quest to rise up the Premier League table.

Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder has been confirmed in recent months by former Chelsea player Gianluca Vialli, who said that contact between the two parties had been made.
