According to quotes from Watford star Roberto Pereyra's agent, as reported by The Mirror, Chelsea are interested in signing the 28-year-old, but their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur should hijack any move.

What's the word, then?

Well, the player’s agent Sergio Furlan has been speaking about the Argentine winger's successful 2018 at Vicarage Road, and named the Blues as one of his potential suitors if he was to leave the Hornets.

According to The Mirror, he said: "Mazzarri likes him, but so does Sarri. Maxi has great esteem for Mazzarri because he's a sincere man."

Furlan went on to say that while a January transfer for Pereyra is unlikely he couldn't completely rule it out, and according to him the Blues are keen on him which would still be surprising in a way given they already have Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi on their books – if the latter doesn't leave for Bayern Munich.

Why should Tottenham join the race?

While Spurs are ticking along pretty nicely right now, they are due to lose Son Heung-Min to the Asia Cup following their clash against Manchester United on Sunday, which will leave them with Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura as their only senior out-and-out wide options.

The north London outfit could certainly do with some more depth and quality in those areas if they are to continue to fight on all four fronts in 2019, and Pereyra would be a great addition.

The left-sided player who loves to cut in on his right foot has scored six goals in 21 Premier League appearances this season prior to this weekend, adding a further two assists, and given his quality and the fact he has played for Udinese and Juventus at the highest level previously, he could be useful in the rest of the 2018/19 campaign.
