The Evening Standard have reported that Chelsea are close to completing the signing of centre-back Daniele Rugani from Juventus.
The Evening Standard have reported that Chelsea have agreed a fee of £44.2m, after initially having a £35m bid rejected and that Rugani will sign a five-year deal worth £77,000 a week.
A move to Stamford Bridge will see the 23-year-old reunite with his former boss Maurizio Sarri. The new Chelsea manager was in charge of Empoli during the two seasons that Rugani spent on loan from Juventus.
However, with Toby Alderweireld heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, Spurs should attempt to hijack the deal that Chelsea are said to have made at the last moment.
According to the Mirror, Spurs have set a £75m price tag for the Belgian centre-back and they should act fast to steal Rugani from under Sarri’s nose at Chelsea.
With the talent available at the Italian champions, Rugani has been limited to just 33 league games over the past two seasons as Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Medhi Benatia are ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, like Alderweireld, Rugani is a ball playing centre-back who can set up attacks from deep with his impressive range of passing and could excel under Mauricio Pochettino.
