Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has delivered his latest set of Premier League predictions ahead of the weekend fixtures, and has made a big claim about Tottenham Hotspur under Jose Mourinho compared to under Mauricio Pochettino at the same time.

What did he say?

Speaking ahead of the visit of Burnley to the capital – incidentally he believes the game is going to end in a 1-1 draw – the former Arsenal player was clearly not impressed with their performance in the midweek 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, and in particular their defence which has now conceded twice in all of the Portuguese's four matches in charge.

Nicholas wrote on Sky Sports: "Tottenham got a reality check at Old Trafford, with Manchester United exploiting their mess of a defence. Spurs were fortunate to escape with a 2-1 defeat. Nothing appears to have changed since Jose Mourinho's appointment."

Big claim

It is no surprise that Nicholas has gone in on Tottenham given what was a dreadful display at Old Trafford in pretty much every aspect, and you can understand his viewpoint when it comes to their continued defensive frailties.

That said, the head coach hasn't had long to turn around a team that has clearly been low on confidence and out of form for much of the 2019/20 campaign, and it will take time for him to work his magic and make Spurs a more difficult team to score against.

Wednesday aside, they have been a well-oiled machine when it comes to attacking under the former Chelsea and United manager thus far, with players such as Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld in particular looking to be completely transformed since the 56-year-old replaced Pochettino.

It is harsh to say that nothing has changed at this early stage, but Mourinho clearly does have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and months.
