Tottenham outcast not thinking about future

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder David BentleyOut-of-favour Tottenham midfielder David Bentley says that he is not thinking about his long-term future.

The former England international is currently on loan with Championship outfit Blackburn, after being deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

With his contract with the London club set to expire at the end of the season, it appears likely that Bentley will be searching for a new employer this summer.

But, the 28-year-old insists that he is not making any plans and is just happy to be at Blackburn:

“I just think short term now,” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“I spent too long thinking long term. I’m a bit older and wiser now, but whether that was brought upon me by other people or myself, that is just the way it is.

“I’m out of contract with Tottenham in the summer and I will re-evaluate what I do then, but at the minute I’m just enjoying playing. I spent a bit of time out not playing and it did my brain in.”

Bentley’s move to Blackburn is not his first loan deal of the season, with the winger having spent a small amount of time in Russia with FC Rostov earlier in the campaign.

The former Arsenal man feels that he learnt a lot on his travels, and that it has helped him develop as a player and a person:

“I was in Russia for a little bit and enjoyed my time out there. It was a different experience altogether and changed me as a person – it opened my eyes.”

Bentley moved to Tottenham for £15m in 2008, but has failed to any lasting impact at the club.
