Tottenham press ahead with Spanish raid

Real Madrid's CoentraoTottenham are ready to step up their pursuit of Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao, according to reports from the Daily Star.

It has been speculated that the Portuguese international would be made a part of a mega-money move for Gareth Bale, but now Spurs are ready to push ahead with a separate deal.

The 25-year-old is believed to be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is prepared to offload him to balance the books after splashing the cash to land Isco and Asier Illarramendi.

Although Coentrao is keen to secure switch to a Champions League club, it is said that he would be willing to move to White Hart Lane due to Tottenham’s current chances of regaining a spot at Europe’s top table.

The only stumbling block surrounding the move is the clubs’ difference in valuation.

Spurs are willing to pay up to £17m for the attack-minded defender, but Real believed he is worth just over £20m.

The Spaniards may be willing to drop their demands in the hope that it may boost their chances of securing a move for Bale, although the Londoners have remained firm in their stance that he is not for sale.

Tottenham fans, would the addition of Fabio Coentrao be enough to get your side back into the top four?
