Tottenham will not be concluding a summer deal for Brazilian wonderkid Bernard, according to the player’s agent.
Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the 20-year-old over the course of the past few weeks, with some reports suggesting that Andre Villas-Boas was prepared to dedicate a large chunk of his transfer budget to securing his signature.
However, his club, Atletico Mineiro, are far from keen to lose him, and have slapped a huge valuation on his head in a bid to ward off potential buyers.
And Bernard’s agent, Adriano Spadoto, says that this has seen Tottenham’s interest wane.
“The negotiations with Dortmund and Tottenham have cooled due to Bernard’s high asking price, and he won’t go to any of these clubs,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.
But, Spadato does expect his client to be moving on, and says that Porto is the most likely destination due to their relationship with the bank that own part of Bernard’s economic rights.
“The agreement [with the bank] is a factor, so Porto are the most likely destination for Bernard,” he added.
“I believe that Bernard will leave Atletico Mineiro after the Copa Libertadores and the official announcement will be made by [Mineiro president] Alexandre Kalil.”
Porto have the financial capabilities to pull off a deal, having sold Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez to Monaco for a combined fee of almost £70m earlier this summer.
Tottenham fans, is it a blow to miss out on Bernard?
