The Portuguese centre-back could still move to the Premier League, although Serie A side Fiorentina are favourites to secure his services.
Spurs had a loan approach for Rolando rejected by Porto, but with the sale of Gareth Bale looking more likely, Spurs will have the money to sign the defender on a permanent basis. The move would reunite Rolando with AVB, after the duo won the treble during the manager’s time in Portugal.
Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-back after a flurry of injury concerns to their current squad. Michael Dawson has suffered a leg injury that requires a scan, while Younes Kaboul is still struggling to overcome his knee injury from last season. Jan Vertonghen has also picked up an injury, damaging his ankle in the Barclays Asia Trophy.
After the club released William Gallas at the end of last season, and sold Steven Caulker to Cardiff City for just under £9million, Andre Villas-Boas is expected to be low on fully fit centre-backs when his side face Crystal Palace on August 18th.
The Portuguese manager could turn to Rolando to save his defensive crisis, as well as replacing the gap left by William Gallas.
Would Rolando do well at White Hart Lane? Should the club use a big chunk of the potential Bale money for a world class defender?
