Tottenham ready to beat Liverpool & Man City to Saints ace

Tottenham are ready to intensify their efforts to land Jay Rodriguez in January, amid speculation that Liverpool and Manchester City are chasing the Southampton star, according to reports from Goal.

The England international is yet to make a first-team appearance this term for the Saints due to a long-standing knee injury, but his stock remains high among the Premier League’s big sides.

Rodriguez netted 15 goals for the South Coast club last term, which impressed rival managers and put him in line for a spot in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad before his fitness issues set in.

He’s expected to return to action around late November time, and Spurs are ready to move for the versatile attacker in the New Year as long as there are no hiccups.

Lilywhites chief Mauricio Pochettino coached the 25-year-old at Southampton last season and remains a big fan of his hard-working playing style and eye for goal.

Liverpool and City are also keen, but Spurs are hopeful that the lure of reuniting with the Argentine at White Hart Lane will sway Rodriguez.

The Sky Blues are understood to have contacted J-Rod’s representatives, while the Merseysiders are keeping a close eye on proceedings.

Southampton are unlikely to be open to a sale unless the player himself pushes for a move.
