As reported by Football Italia, Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Serie A side Inter Milan are considering a swap offer for Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon in January.
Inter boss Roberto Mancini, formerly of Manchester City, has made no secret of his desire to land a wide-man when the transfer window reopens, recently telling reporters after a 4-2 defeat to Roma; “This squad has been built to play a different system, so it’s inevitable that there are some teething problems. We don’t have any out-and-out wingers, but the players are doing well to adapt. We’ve now got a month to do what we can [until January] then we’ll see.”
Rumoured to be considering a North London departure in January, having slid down the pecking order this season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino to record just three starts and 276 minutes in the Premier League this season, the 27 year-old Lennon is certainly available, with Hull City, Stoke City and QPR all said to be baying for his services already.
La Gazzetta claims however that the San Siro side will instead offer a swap deal for the £7million-rated former England international, with midfield powerhouse Fredy Guarin going the other way.
The Colombian international has been linked with a Premier League move before, particularly to Chelsea and Manchester United last January. He’s been playing regularly enough this season, amassing two goals and three assists in nine Serie A outings, but Inter have been trying to find a way to oust the high-earning 28 year-old for some time.
Failing that, they could offer wing-back Alvaro Pereira instead, who was strongly linked with a Lilywhites switch prior to Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking twelve months ago.
