Tottenham are planning a huge club-record £37.8m bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, according to Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Marzio wrote on his website that is it understood that Spurs have flown to Milan to meet with the 23-year-old’s agent.
However, Inter Milan are not keen on parting ways with their star striker, who scored 16 goals in Serie A last term.
Icardi has previously been linked with Spurs’ London rivals West Ham, who are hell bent on splashing big money on a marquee striker signing this summer.
But reports that Spurs are looking to spend close to £40m on Icardi could potentially lead to the Hammers looking ending their interest in the forward.
Inter Milan were recently taken over by Chinese investors and Di Marzio’s report claims the club is waiting to see the value of Spurs’ final offer before discussing with the new owners.
Transfermarkt.com value Icardi at £24m and his San Siro contract runs to 2019.
