Talks look set to continue today between Tottenham and Toulouse, after the club’s bid of £8.6million for the French international was accepted.
Capoue has been the subject of offers from both Atletico Madrid and Premier League new boys Cardiff City this summer, although now it appears Spurs are in line to complete the deal.
Andre Villas-Boas has been in the market for defensive minded players, since selling Steven Caulker to Cardiff last week.
The Tottenham manager also has concerns over the fitness of defenders Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul, while defensive midfielder Scott Parker is also set to leave the club this summer, with QPR currently looking the most likely destination.
Capoue is regarded as a central midfielder first and foremost, but also has the ability to play at centre back.
The Frenchman – who stands at 6ft 2 inches – is set to challenge fit again Brazilian Sandro for the starting defensive midfield role.
Capoue is thought to have been a long term target for Tottenham, although AVB failed with a bid to bring the 24-year-old to White Hart Lane last January.
The deal looks all but done and dusted for the man who scored seven goals in 34 league games for the Ligue 1 side last season, with Toulouse president Olivier Sadran admitting: “He will go (to Tottenham).”
