Tottenham should avoid signing Rafinha who hasn’t lived up to expectations

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Rafinha according to Catalan newspaper Sport as cited in Sport Witness.

What’s the story?

The 25-year-old has been on the books of Barcelona since he was a schoolboy and broke into the first team in 2014.

The central midfielder has gone on to make 48 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.

The Brazilian spent the second half of last season on loan at Inter Milan where he played 17 times, registering two goals and three assists, but according to the report, the Serie A club have decided not to take him on a permanent deal.

This opens the door for Spurs who are looking for a potential Mousa Dembele replacement and they and Lazio are reportedly keen on the £25.2million-rated midfielder according to Transfermarkt who clearly isn’t part of Ernesto Valverde’s plans.

Is he worth it?

Rafinha has never really lived up to expectations although he hasn’t been given an extended run of games for Barcelona.

For the sort of money it would take to bring him to Tottenham, they could surely look elsewhere and bring in someone who has proved themselves.

The Spaniard still hasn’t worked out what kind of player he is and Tottenham need someone to replace Dembele who’s just as strong at breaking up play and driving the team.
