Tottenham should try and sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been in fine form for Southampton this season, and Tottenham Hotspur should try and sign him in the January transfer window.

What’s the word, then?

Hojbjerg joined Southampton from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2016, and it would be fair to say that it took the midfielder time to settle in English football.

The Denmark international finished the 2017-18 campaign strongly, however, and has carried that form into the new season.

Indeed, the midfielder has netted twice in three Premier League appearances this season, including in the 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday night.

Hojbjerg has always had incredible ability, which allowed him to make 25 appearances for Bayern’s first team, and it seems that things are now starting to click.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of midfielders ahead of the January transfer window, but the capital outfit should make a bid for Hojbjerg at the start of 2019.

Why should Tottenham move for Hojbjerg?

Hojbjerg has a contract with Southampton until the summer of 2021, and the Saints will be desperate to keep hold of the 6ft 1in midfielder.

Money talks, however, and there is no question that Tottenham should be looking for a player of his calibre in the next transfer window.

Hojbjerg has only just turned 23 years of age, and there is every reason to believe that he will continue to improve in the coming years.

There remains uncertainty surrounding the future of Mousa Dembele at Tottenham, whilst Eric Dier continues to split opinion with the Spurs supporters.

With respect to Southampton, Hojbjerg is a Champions League-class midfielder, and there is no reason why he could not be a huge asset to a team of Tottenham’s ilk.
