According to reports in The Irish Sun, Real Madrid are lining up a £40m bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, and Spurs should use the interest in the Dane to bring Gareth Bale back to north London in a sensational deal.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Irish Sun report that the La Liga giants are lining up an audacious £90m double swoop on the Premier League to bring Eriksen and Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford to the Bernabeu.

The Irish Sun report that the Spanish club want the Denmark international as a long-term successor to Luka Modric in the middle of the park, and they are plotting a £40m offer for a player who has just 18 months left on his contract.

The report adds that talks over a new deal for the 26-year-old have stalled, who has seen teammate Dele Alli recent pen a new £150,000-a-week contract.

What should Tottenham do?

If it gets to the point where it seems that the club will be unable to agree terms with Eriksen on a new deal, then they will need to start thinking about whether and when they are going to cash in on the 26-year-old, and his destination.

Selling him to a team outside of the Premier League would obviously be preferential if an exit has to happen, and Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino could then have the bargaining tool they need to re-sign Bale.

The 29-year-old obviously made his name with Spurs with 56 goals and 58 assists in 203 appearances in total, and there would certainly be a huge lift for the north London outfit if the Welshman made what would be a romantic return.
