Inter Milan are lining up a move for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen in January, per The Daily Express.

What’s the word?

The Denmark international was heavily linked with a move away in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, Eriksen outlined his plans to take on a new challenge following the Champions League final but was not the subject of bids from the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Nevertheless, his contract expires at the end of the season and Inter are monitoring developments with a view to making a bid in January, per the report.

Spurs have offered Eriksen a deal but he has yet to show any interest in signing it; he can enter into pre-contract negotiations with an interested club in January.

A sideways step

This would be a new challenge but it might not be the step up that the playmaker is looking for.

Spurs obviously reached the Champions League final last season and they are looking to break through the glass ceiling and reach the elite echelon, alongside the likes of Real and Barca.

The same can be said of Inter.

They did not progress out of the group stages in last season’s Champions League and finished fourth in Serie A; Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League.

This would be a sideways move for Eriksen; he should wait for another opportunity.
