One of the surprises in Hodgson’s starting XI on Friday night was Andros Townsend – but he certainly did not disappoint. It was quite a performance from the Tottenham player – England debut at Wembley in a vital World Cup Qualifying match contributing significantly to the 4-1 win. His input was not overlooked and Townsend has now been named as England’s key to success in the World Cup, and team-mate Walker is one person who could not agree more.
Walker, who will be missing the clash against Poland tonight due to a booking on Friday, has done nothing but sing his fellow Tottenham team-mate’s praises. And who would know better than someone who plays with him at club level as well, where Walker describes him as “a nightmare”. The reason?
“As a full-back you don’t want a right midfielder who is left footed running at you,” Walker explained.
It’s fair to say that after his performance on Friday, Townsend would be an incredible asset to the team should they make it to Brazil. Let’s just hope we see another man-of-the-match performance from the young star tonight!
