Tottenham struck by transfer blow

Roma midfielder PjanicTottenham’s hopes of luring Miralem Pjanic to White Hart Lane in January have taken a hit, with news that the midfielder is happy at Roma.

Spurs were strongly linked with the Bosnian international throughout the summer months and are said to have come close to making a serious offer for his signature.

However, Andre Villas-Boas instead elected to move for Christian Eriksen during his £108m North London revolution.

But, AVB is still thought to be a fan of Pjanic, which has led to rumours of a fresh offer once the transfer window re-opens.

The 23-year-old was rumoured to be unsettled in the Italian capital, but he now says that he is fully focused on helping Roma and is happy working under new manager Rudi Garcia.

“I am focused one just one thing so far, giving my very best to the club,” he told Sky Sports.

“Since pre-season training, everything has been very clear between the coach and me.

“Anyway I had no desire for anything else than another season here.

“I want to pay back the coach and the club for the trust they showed me. I feel at ease at AS Roma.”

Tottenham are hopeful that the presence of Erik Lamela – who moved to the club from Roma – may be a deciding factor in the race for Pjanic.
