Tottenham target facing showdown talks

Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke is preparing for showdown talks with Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert, after handing in a transfer request at the Midlands club last week, reports The Sun.

The Belgian striker fears the club are going to block his attempted move away, and could even freeze the striker out in the way Lambert has previosuly done to other players.

A number of Villa players have found themselves on the outskirts of late, and according to a source have been dubbed the BOMB squad at Villa Park.

The likes of Darren Bent, Shay Given, Alan Hutton, Stephen Ireland and Barry Bannan have found themselves out in the cold, and the club’s unhappiness with Benteke could see him face the same fate.

An unamed player is thought to have said: “We’ve been calling ourselves the Bomb Squad.

“We’re waiting to see if Christian becomes our newest member.”

Villa are adament they will not let the 22-year-old depart unless the asking price of £25million is met.

Tottenham have been the club most heavily linked, although they are yet to launch a bid.

Benteke’s showdown talks with Lambert will give a clearer indication as to what the next twist in the transfer saga will be, but with the Villa manager thought to be unhappy at the percieved lack of loyalty shown by the forward, it will certainly not be straightforward.
