Tottenham target set for showdown talks

Aston Villa's Christian BentekeChristian Benteke is on course for a heated showdown with Paul Lambert today, reports The Sun.

The Tottenham target wants away from Villa Park, having handed in a transfer request last week.

However, the £25million rated forward may be forced to join Villa’s outcasts, who have proclaimed themselves the BOMB SQUAD.

Shay Given, Alan Hutton, Barry Bannan and Darren Bent are currently members of the group, and all have been the subject of recent transfer speculation.

The Sun has quoted a member of the exiled as having said: “We’ve been calling ourselves the Bomb Squad.

“We’re waiting to see if Christian becomes our newest member.”

Should Benteke be allowed the opportunity to join Spurs, news that the north Londoners may be about to land £60millon from Manchester United for Gareth Bale, would make his asking price easily reachable.

Andre Villas-Boas has been searching for a striking option to add to Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, and Benteke’s name has been rumoured more than most so far this summer.

The Belgian scored 23 goals in 39 appearances for Aston Villa last season. His goalscoring ability has never been in doubt and he has also netted six times in 14 games for an emerging Belgium side.
