Despite already spending close to £90million this summer, Spurs boss Andres Villas-Boas is ready to dig deep for 28-year-old Hernanes, who is yet to sign a new contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
But Lazio president Claudio Lotito is desperate to persuade the Brazilian to remain in the Italian capital and denies receiving any formal bid for the player as of yet.
He told the Daily Star: “Until today no-one has knocked on our door for Hernanes.
“Getting rid of Hernanes is not our intention. We intent to keep him.”
And if Hernanes does arrive at White Hart Lane before the transfer window closes next Tuesday, he will become Spurs’ seventh high-profile summer recruit, with Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue already making the switch to the Premier League, while Roma’s Erik Lamela and Steau Bucharest’s Vlad Chiriches are both expected to sign in the coming days.
Lazio paid Sao Paulo €11million for Hernanes in 2010 and the midfielder has gone on to make over 100 Serie A appearances for Biancocelesti, scoring 29 goals.
Hernanes has been capped 17 times by Brazil, finding the net on three occasions.
