Spurs have been chasing the Romanian international for the past few months, but their interest was believed to have cooled after an initial approach for his signature was swiftly knocked back.
But, after allowing William Gallas and, more recently, Steven Caulker to leave White Hart Lane, Andre Villas-Boas is ready to push ahead with a £7.5m move for Chiriches.
The 23-year-old is valued highly in his homeland, where he is viewed as one of the top talents.
Steaua are far from keen to sell, but may be forced to strike a deal with the player himself likely to be open to testing himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
AVB sees Chiriches as the ideal defender for his current playing style, with his ability to build attacks from the back one of the key aspects of his game.
The Eastern European ace is also adept defensively, and blessed with fine positional awareness.
Chiriches spent some of his time as a youth player with Portuguese giants Benfica, but has pursued his senior career in Romania.
He has won 19 caps for his home nation, for whom he is a valued senior professional.
Tottenham fans, could Vlad Chiriches be a star at White Hart Lane?
