Tottenham transfer blow… Liverpool target will reject Spurs switch

Aston Villa‘s Christian Benteke is ready to snub a move to Spurs due to the way they treated him in 2013, even if they firm up their interest, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Lilywhites are understood to be back in the running for the Liverpool-linked Belgian, with a swap deal involving Emmanuel Adebayor having been mooted.

However, even if the London club do make a firm offer for him, Benteke is ready to reject the white half of North London thanks to the transfer saga of two summers ago.

Tottenham chased the powerful forward in 2013, but after he handed a transfer request to force a move, Spurs cooled their interest in a £25m swoop.

Benteke was forced to go back on his actions and signed a new deal at Villa Park, but was left embarrassed by the whole episode.

The 24-year-old is now wary of the capital-based club, plus there are doubts surrounding the White Hart Lane outfit’s ability to pay the £32.5m fee needed for the hit-man with players of over £15m reportedly off their radar after the regrettable big money purchases of Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado.

The news will come as a boost for Liverpool, who are thought to be keen on Benteke.
