Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona this month, per The Daily Telegraph.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is said to be keen to recruit a central defender this month as he bids to bolster his squad.
And the possibility for the north London club to buy the World Cup winner has reportedly come up this month.
Umtiti has made eight appearances for Barca this season and has played a total of 106 times for the Catalan giants.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
Spurs used to have a remarkably injury-prone centre-back in Ledley King.
A brilliant defender who simply couldn’t stay fit, King missed a total of 521 days through injury, per Transfermarkt, meaning that he was absent for 66 Spurs games.
It has even been claimed that he was so fragile; he didn’t train in the build-up to matches.
Umtiti is similar.
Since the beginning of the 2018/19 season, he has missed 38 Barcelona games, comparable to an entire Premier League campaign.
Since 13/14, he has been absent for 304 days or 62 games.
While Umtiti is clearly talented – he has played at the very highest level for both his club team and his international team – he simply cannot stay fit.
It would be a risk to bring him into the club; he could be on the treatment table just as much as he is on the pitch.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans have reacted to a potential swap deal involving Christian Eriksen!
