Tottenham Hotspur will make an enquiry for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons if Kieran Trippier leaves the club, per Football.London.

What’s the word?

Trippier endured a terrible season in the top-flight after a quite brilliant World Cup with England in Russia.

A number of embarrassing mistakes, namely an own goal against Chelsea, have seen his stock fall considerably and he has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A.

Both Juventus and Napoli are said to be keen, with Spurs reportedly identifying Aarons as a potential replacement.

The 19-year-old helped the Canaries to promotion from the Championship, making 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering six assists.

An upgrade for the future

This would be a brilliant bit of business from Spurs.

Trippier has endured an execrable season and it is only Serge Aurier’s own deficiencies that have kept him in the team.

One could argue that the right-back situation has gone well beyond crisis mode, and it's no surprise Liverpool's opening minute penalty in Madrid came from a ball in behind Trippier.

Moving him on and reinvesting in a teenager with a remarkably high ceiling is classic Spurs and would surely endear chairman Daniel Levy to Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has been spectacular when it comes to bringing the best out of full-backs, from the likes of Luke Shaw to Danny Rose, and Aarons could be the latest beneficiary.

A solid defender with a willingness to bomb forward and create chances for his team-mates, he could solve the club’s right-back issue for the next decade.

If that means sacrificing Trippier, Spurs simply have to do it.
