The Welshman’s move to the Bernabeu is in fresh doubt after Chelsea hijacked Spurs’ move for Brazilian Willian.
The Anzhi star had a medical at Spurs at the start of the week, and looked set to sign on at White Hart Lane. But Jose Mourinho’s £32million bid, reportedly £2m more than Tottenham’s, looks set to have stolen any deal for Willian, with the Brazilian now likely to join the Blues.
Tottenham chairman is so angry that he has lost out on the Brazilian that he is threatening to pull out of Bale’s move to Real Madrid. However, with talks in such an advanced stage, it is expected that the 24-year-old will still get his switch to the Spanish capital before the September 2nd deadline.
However it adds a fresh twist in the saga, as Spurs must rethink their plans for life without Bale. With less than two weeks to bring in new players, Mourinho’s move for Willian could be costly for Spurs’ season should they struggle to bring in a new signing. Tottenham didn’t struggle to beat Dinamo Tbilisi last night, putting five past the Georgians in their Europa League qualifying play-off match.
How much of a blow is the loss of Willian for Spurs? Where do they go next?
