Turkish giants plan swoop for Tottenham star

Tottenham's Jermain Defoe

Turkish giants Beskitas are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermain Defoe, reports the Daily Mail.

The Black Eagles had been linked with a move for fellow Spurs striker Emmanuel Adebayor, but it appears they have now turned their attention to his team mate.

Beskitas are ready to offer Defoe a salary of around £3million-a-year, as they look to fight QPR for his signature. The Championship side have also been linked with the English forward as they prepare a side capable of getting back into the Premier League.

QPR have already signed Charlie Austin this summer to fight Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora for a starting place, and Johnson has welcomed the club’s interest in Defoe.

“He’s worked under Harry before, he’s worked with a lot of the boys before. I worked with him for three or four years at England. He’s a great lad,” said Johnson.

“He’s worked with Jermaine Jenas and a few of the old Tottenham boys — there are a lot of people here who could attract him to the club.”

Defoe has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane after the club signed Roberto Soldado for a club record fee of £26million. The Spaniard is expected to start in Spurs’ first match of the new season away to Crystal Palace on August 18th.

Should Spurs keep Defoe? Could he find a Premier League side to play for?
