Minutes into the second half against Bayer Leverkusen, Dele Alli fell in the box. What looked like a nailed on penalty for Mauricio Pochettino’s side was waved away by the referee like a petulant child does when faced with a bowl of brussel sprouts.
With the game poised at 0-0 and the result mattering so much to their respective seasons, this decision could have seismic consequences.
Understandably, Spurs fans were furious that the referee refused to give them the spotkick, particularly with their specialist 12 yard man, Vincent Janssen, on the pitch. Other fans were not quite so forgiving of the England youngster…
Dirty dive by Alli. Mark Clattenberg would give that a pen if he did that against us

Naturally, some fans slipped into the realm of paranoia.
Dele Alli getting himself a right reputation as a diver. Shame

Doesn't matter how many times you show it, it really is an embarrassing dive from Dele Alli

However you want to look at it, Alli did not come out well from that phase of play.
Dear me, Dele Alli dives disgracefully and Jermaine Jenas still tries to defend it after seeing it THREE times. Shameful cheating.

Was it that bad? Really? There was a little contact, after all…

At least, in the deepest corners of Twitter, there are some who are willing to give Alli the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe a dive, maybe a penalty, either way Alli is not a popular chap.
