Tottenham Hotspur face League One outfit Rochdale in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Spotland on Sunday, and given the important Premier League and Champions League fixtures ahead Mauricio Pochettino may see it as the perfect opportunity to make a few changes to his XI.

Spurs recovered from a dreadful start against Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night as they came from 2-0 down early on to secure a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their last 16 tie, while they are in fifth position in the top flight standings, but only four points adrift of second-place Manchester United as they look to qualify for Europe's elite club competition once again.

While the north London outfit will view the FA Cup as the perfect opportunity to end their 10-year trophy drought, the fact that they are playing a side that is currently lying bottom of the third tier of English football should mean that Pochettino is willing to blood some of his youngsters – even if they were held to a 1-1 draw away at League Two Newport County in the previous round.

The Argentine boss may look to rest some of his key men – or at least name them on the substitutes' bench this weekend – and he may look to give some of his younger players a chance to impress.

Here are two Tottenham youngsters Pochettino must bring into the starting XI vs Rochdale…

Kyle Walker-Peters

With Serge Aurier, Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies and Danny Rose for competition in the full-back areas, the versatile defender, who can play on either flank, has only made seven appearances in all competitions for Tottenham so far this season.

Three of those outings have come in the FA Cup, but taking into consideration his impressive display against Newcastle United on the opening day of the Premier League season he certainly deserves an opportunity to start against the lowly League One outfit this weekend.

It would give Pochettino the perfect opportunity not to risk injury or suspension to Trippier or Aurier if the 20-year-old did line up in his preferred right-back position, and the Argentine boss should have no worries about naming him in the starting XI.

Kazaiah Sterling

The 19-year-old striker has only made one first-team appearance for Tottenham previously – a two-minute cameo as a substitute in the 2-0 win against Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League in December – and he will be hoping to push for a place in the matchday squad against Rochdale this weekend.

With Harry Kane a potential doubt because of a twisted ankle and with Fernando Llorente struggling to impress following his summer move from Swansea City, Pochettino should consider blooding the teenager from the start against the League One strugglers.

The centre-forward has scored nine goals for the various youth sides this season, and his pace, work rate and strength could see him play a pivotal role for his team if he is named in the starting XI at Spotland.
